Summary

Location (data center) change is available for VPS. A new server with a new IP address is created. Location change does not apply to dedicated servers.

Applies to:
✔ VPS

What happens during a location change

  • A new VPS is created in the selected location
  • IP address changes
  • Data is not transferred automatically
  • The old server is deleted after confirmation

Options

Simple option (without data transfer)

Suitable if the server has no important data or you are ready to set everything up from scratch.

Contact support with a location change request.

With data transfer

If the server has projects, websites, databases:

  1. Create a full backup of the current server
  2. Request a location change through support
  3. After the new server is created, transfer data
  4. Update DNS records (A records) to the new IP
  5. Verify all services are working

Support can help with data transfer.

Things to consider

  • IP address will change. Update DNS records, PTR, firewall rules on other servers
  • SSL certificates: Let's Encrypt certificates need to be reissued on the new server
  • Monitoring: update the IP in monitoring settings
  • Reduce DNS TTL in advance (to 300 seconds) for faster switchover

Dedicated servers

Location change does not apply to dedicated servers. If you need a server in a different location, order a new one and perform data migration yourself or with support assistance.

Verification

After the location change and data transfer:

ping NEW_IP
dig your-domain.com +short

The A record should show the new IP. Check that websites and services are working.

To change the server location, open a support ticket. Specify the current server IP and the desired location.
